Unfortunately, I hear a lot of stories from clients about their vehicles getting broken into. And most of these stories don’t have a happy ending. As any cop will tell you, it’s extremely easy for professional thieves to break into your truck or SUV in a matter of seconds. In fact, it can happen so quick that any casual viewer would think they’re just using keys to open your door.

So what can you do to protect your vehicle and the contents? Here are my three quick tips:

  1. Replace the driver’s door handle with a door handle that doesn’t have a lock. Simply remove the option for a thief to break the lock. Since most of us use a wireless remote to lock and unlock our vehicle, you won’t miss the lock on the door handle. And when a thief notices that you don’t have any easy lock to break, they’ll likely move onto the next vehicle.
  2. Since it’s easy to break a window or get past a door lock, I recommend securing your valuables inside your car as well. Two of my favorite options are the ConsoleVault – a safe for the center center console of your truck, and the TruckVault, which not only provides a secure place for your valuables, but can also be an incredible organizer for your truck or SUV. Come by our showroom and check out the demos of these incredible safety devices that will keep your guns, tools and even your golf clubs safe in the back of your truck or SUV.
  3. And while this final option may be obvious, don’t leave anything valuable in your car. I know it’s not always practical, but just remember that thieves lurk everywhere. Keep yourself and valuables safe from them wherever you go.
